Ford released 2017 editions of five vehicles in its SUV and Crossover category, and the all-new Escape is definitely worth mentioning. It’s the perfect SUV for families, your teen’s first car, or anyone with a taste for adventure whether you’re cruising through the city or trekking through the wilderness.
Starting at $23,750, the 2017 Ford Escape can comfortably seat five total and can reach an impressive 21 miles per gallon in the city and 29 on the highway. There are three different engines featured in the 2017 lineup depending on which model you choose. First, we have the 2.5L with independent variable cam design (iVCT). This innovative technology allows for varied valve timing to improve high-end cruising and low-end acceleration. Next up is the 1.5L EcoBoost® iVCT, standard on the SE and Titanium models. Thanks to a combination of direct injection turbocharging and Auto Start-Stop technology, this engine is the most fuel-efficient of them all. Last but not least is the 2.0L EccoBoost with a twin-scroll turbocharger and two exhaust runners that flow directly into the turbo. This allows for exhaust to be captured from two cylinders at a time and alternates to maximize pulse energy, delivering a faster torque. It too is extremely fuel-efficient and utilizes automatic Start-Stop.
The new Explorer also includes features that improve your drive while keeping you safe. Curve Control can detect if you’re going too fast as you approach a curve or turn in the road and automatically slow you down by utilizing your anti-lock brakes and throttle reduction. This allows for more traction on the outside of your tires, which is then transferred into torque specific to the tires that have the most grip through Standard Torque Vectoring Control. This causes the front end of your vehicle to stick to the inside of the turn, and reduces the possibility of under steering.
